Patrick Darby per ship Hooghley, in government service, charged with employing a government bullock cart for his own benefit without leave. Mr. Alexander Busby being sworn states - On Friday the 29th instant I saw the prisoner in charge of a government bullock cart going from the wharf towards Wallis Hill. The cart had in it shingles and posts not the property of government. It should have left the wharf empty. When questioned he said he was taking the load to Mayos. The prisoner in defence states - that having been employed as a bullock driver only a few days, he did not know there was any impropriety in acting as he had. The Chief Constable gives the prisoner a good character. Patrick Darby sentenced to 7 days solitary confinement
